ABC-1 agreement- Britain and the United States agreed that the United States should enter World War II and that the nations and their allies would coordinate their military planning.
Executive Order No. 9066- Authorized the removal of Japanese "enemy aliens" to camps. The policy was constitutional.
War Production Board (WPD)- Directed all war production, including procuring and allocating raw materials.
Office of Price Administration (OPA)- Regulated the consumer economy by rationing scarce supplies such as cars, tiers, fuel, nylon and sugar, it also curbed inflation by setting ceilings on the price of goods.
National War Labor Board (NWLB)- Aimed at preventing labor disputes by encouraging high wages and an eight-hour day but took away the right to organize into unions.
Smith-Connally Anti-Strike Act- Allowed the federal government to seize and operate plants threatened by labor disputers, it also made labor strikes a crime.
WACs (Women's Army Corps)- The female branch of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Coast Guard. Allowed women to work in noncombatant jobs.
WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services)- Allowed women to work in noncombatant jobs.
SPARs (U.S. Coast Guard Women's Reserve)- Women were able to participate in armed services instead of being nurses.
Bracero Program- Recruited temporary Mexican agricultural workers to the United States to help with labor shortages.
Fair Employment Practices Commission (FEPC)- Forbade racial discrimination in all defense plants under contract with he federal government.
Congress of Racial Equality (CORE)- A nonviolent civil rights organization that was committed to victory over fascism abroad and racism at home.
Code Talkers- Were Native American men in the military who transmitted radio messages in their native languages, leaving the Japanese and Germans confused.
Battle of Midway- Fought near the island of Midway and halted the Japanese from advancing.
D-Day- Military operation on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, the operation freed France.
V-E (Victory in Europe) Day- Was the day that World War II ended in Europe, leading to the surrender of Germany.
Potsdam Conference- A meeting between Truman, Stalin and Winston Churchill(later Clement Attlee) to give Japan a choice; surrender or be destroyed.
Manhattan Project- Developed the atomic bomb and denoted the first experimental bomb in New Mexico.
V-J (Victory in Japan) Day- The day Japan surrendered, ending WWII.
